How to Book an Appointment with The White Practice Osteophatic Clinic
For the first appointment please arrive in plenty of time. After an in-depth consultation into the presenting problem and your general medical history the osteopath will examine you physically, looking at the area of pain, general physical health and asking you to carry out certain movements where appropriate; Together this will form the osteopathic diagnosis. This will be discussed with you, and if appropriate, treatment will begin. As osteopathy treats the whole person it is sometimes necessary to undress to under garments to facilitate the examination. The Osteopath will use a variety of techniques ranging from soft tissue massage, stretching, joint articulation and mobilisation, high velocity thrusts, and very gentle cranio-sacral work involving the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
It is not uncommon to feel a few aches and tiredness after your treatment. This will usually subside after a day or so. If you are at all concerned about any discomfort then do contact the practice. Gentle movement and ice packing for 10 minutes are usually the best way to reduce pain. Please recognise the importance of rest for your body, especially when undergoing any form of treatment.
As a rough guide acute symptoms usually resolve within 2-3 treatments. Chronic injury or repetitive strain injuries may require further treatment. Some patients take a proactive approach and book ongoing treatments to pre-empt pain.
